]]>I have to say, if this is confirmed, I am slightly disappointed that it isn’t more outlandish. I think the name, which means rhythm, is actually quite nice. I had heard that North (North West) was in the mix. I wanted to lament the cruelty that celebrity parents often bestow their offspring [Looks like I can. North West has been confirmed!].
It is quite a tightrope to walk. You might not want something very conventional, which is, dare I say it, ‘common’, but at the same time would you really want to saddle a child with a name that is so quirky they’ll be ridiculed in their formative years and which could actually be a barrier to more conservative career choices in the future?
It is a minefield. I have to say, after putting a lot of thought into it, I was a bit miffed when I discovered that Sofia had several namesakes in her year group. I found it ridiculously difficult choosing names for my twins. Had they been boys, I was considering Daniel and Jack (not John and Terry – but thanks for the suggestion @EleanorWi), but then realised that when said the other way round looked like I was paying homage to a particular brand of bourbon. I know a couple of friends who have changed their baby name choices when someone they know has got in there first. I totally get this; my husband thinks it is completely ridiculous that you would change your chosen name on these grounds.
Naming your child is so subjective and I’m sure I’ll be criticised for not acknowledging the creativity of many celebrity choices. However, even in the pursuit of something timeless and unique, would you actually consider any of the following?
Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow, Buddy Bear, Apple, Phaedra, Astala, Fifi Trixibelle, Little Pixie, Peaches Honeyblossom, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, Moon Unit, Bluebell Madonna, Blue Ivy, Klay, Zuma Nesta Rock, Sparrow James Midnight, Bronx Mowgli…
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden with daughter Harlow Winter Kate and son Sparrow James Midnight Madden.
